Andrés Barrios, Director of the Human Development Lab, recently traveled to the United States to participate in two academic activities aimed at strengthening international research networks and promoting global dialogue in the field of education.
During April and May, Barrios was invited to present his work at Tulane University and to take part in the annual meeting of the Education Group of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), one of the most prestigious academic networks in economics.
On April 14th, Barrios presented his paper titled “Elite Universities and the Formation of Influential Politicians” at the Department of Economics at Tulane University, New Orleans. The seminar, which brought national and international profesionals, focused on topics related to applied microeconomics and public policy.
“This was an opportunity to share part of my research on selective universities and the formation of elites in Chile. The department at Tulane has a strong emphasis on applied microeconomics, and academic seminars like this one are essential for exchanging feedback and advancing collaborative research,” Barrios explained.
On May 1st and 2nd, Barrios also took part in the Education Group meeting of the NBER, held at Stanford University in California. This group brings together leading economists working on education-related topics to share findings and discuss ongoing research.
“The NBER is a leading research organization in the United States that brings together top economists across various fields. I actively participate in the Education Group meetings, which allow us to stay connected with international academic networks, share our projects, and gain insights into the cutting-edge developments in this area,” said Barrios.
Twelve research papers were presented and discussed at the seminar, offering participants the chance to receive valuable feedback and explore future collaborations.
