Alexander Valenzuela, Research Assistant at the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universidad de los Andes since January 2023, will begin his PhD in Economics this August at the University of Michigan, one of the top-ranked universities worldwide.
Alexander holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Economics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research interests primarily focus on macroeconomics, but he has also worked on projects in labor economics and the economics of education.
During his time at Universidad de los Andes, Alexander collaborated with Professor Andrés Barrios, Director of the Human Development Lab, on research in economics of education, and later joined projects on international macroeconomics with Dean Álvaro García.
“The pre-doctoral program gave me a solid understanding of academic research and the daily work of an economist. The support I received from the faculty was key in preparing strong PhD applications,” said Alexander, who was also accepted to the PhD program at UCLA.
We wish him great success in this exciting new chapter of his academic journey.
