Between July 7 and 25, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) held its annual Summer Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts—one of the most prestigious academic gatherings in the field of economics worldwide. The event brings together hundreds of researchers to present ongoing work and discuss recent developments across a broad range of economic topics.

Andrés Barrios Fernández, Director of the Human Development Lab and faculty member at the School of Economics and Business at Universidad de los Andes, participated in the final week of the 2025 edition of the Summer Institute. This year’s program featured nearly 50 workshops focused on areas such as education, labor markets, innovation, economic growth, and international trade.

The Summer Institute has been held every July for over four decades and operates by invitation only. Its aim is to foster idea exchange, improve research in progress, and strengthen international academic networks.

Barrios’s participation reflects the Lab’s continued commitment to academic excellence and to producing rigorous evidence that can inform public policy in Chile and Latin America.
