From August 18 to 22, the World Congress of the Econometric Society took place in Seoul, South Korea. This is the Society’s most important conference, held every five years, bringing together leading economists from around the world to share and discuss research on a wide range of topics.

Human Development Lab member Andrés García attended the conference and presented the ongoing research “Faculty Gender and Student Performance in Male- and Female-dominated Fields”, co-authored with Francisca Torres, student of the Master’s in Engineering Sciences at Universidad de los Andes.

The study explores how faculty gender may influence university students’ performance depending on the gender composition of the field: male-dominated programs such as Engineering, female-dominated programs such as Nursing, and more balanced ones such as Law.

The work was presented in the session on gender gaps in higher education. According to Andrés García, the presentation received “valuable feedback and suggestions to further strengthen this line of research on such a relevant issue as gender equity in education”.
