Andrés Barrios, Director of the Human Development Lab, began an academic visit at Harvard University in September, with the aim of further advancing his research on education, labor markets, and crime. His stay will extend throughout the fall semester, until January, during which he will continue developing his research and engaging in academic exchange.
Barrios has already presented his work at two renowned Harvard seminars.
On September 9, at the Harvard Kennedy School of Public Policy, he presented the study “Immigrant exposure in Chilean schools and its effects on natives’ academic performance and educational trajectories.” “It was a very enriching experience, as we received valuable feedback that will help us strengthen the paper,” he noted.
Later, on September 24, at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, he shared the results of a project evaluating how a mentoring program at the end of secondary school can significantly impact the educational trajectories of students from disadvantaged backgrounds. “This was also a great experience, as we received insightful ideas to better understand the changes these young people go through,” he added.
Through this academic visit, Barrios seeks to foster international collaboration and contribute new evidence from Chile to the global academic community.
