The Human Development Lab congratulates Jorge Rodríguez, who has been promoted from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor in the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universidad de los Andes. The promotion was announced on Tuesday, October 28.
Rodríguez has been part of Universidad de los Andes since 2018, where he combines his work as a researcher at the Human Development Lab with his teaching in the Faculty of Economics and Business. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Economics (2018) and an M.A. in Economics (2013) from the University of Chicago, as well as both B.A. and M.A. degrees in Economics from the University of Chile.
His research focuses on Labor Economics and the Economics of Education, areas in which he has developed multiple projects and publications. He has taught courses such as Econometrics and Behavior in Organizations, and his academic experience includes research collaborations with scholars such as Derek Neal and Alessandra Voena at the University of Chicago.
In addition to his teaching and research, Rodríguez has contributed to public policy as a consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank and as a Labor Market Advisor at Chile’s Ministry of Finance. His work has been recognized through various fellowships and grants, including the Sherwin Rosen Fellowship and a FONDECYT Initiation Grant (2019–2021).
Reflecting on his promotion, Rodríguez noted that this milestone represents “a recognition from the University for the academic work I have carried out over the years—above all, for the effort to build a solid and continuously growing academic career. I see this appointment as a motivation to continue deepening my research on issues of high scientific impact and with important implications for public policy in education and labor markets, which are my main areas of study. This new role also entails greater responsibility: not only in continuing to produce quality research but also in actively contributing to the development of the Faculty and the University from this new position.”
