Carolina Melo and Pelusa Orellana will contribute to one of Chile’s newest long-term research initiatives on literacy and learning.

The Millennium Institute for the Study of Transformative Literacy and Learning (MISTRALL) has been awarded to a consortium of Chilean universities, including the Universidad de Los Andes (UANDES), Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD), and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV). Funded by Chile’s National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) through its Millennium Science Initiative, the Institute supports long-term, high-impact research in areas of national relevance.

MISTRALL aims to advance interdisciplinary research on transformative literacy and learning, examining how literacy practices can foster inclusion, equity, and social transformation in Chile and Latin America. The initiative brings together leading researchers from multiple institutions to generate rigorous evidence that informs educational policy and teaching practice.

As part of this collaborative effort, Carolina Melo and Pelusa Orellana, both members of the Human Development Lab at Universidad de los Andes, will participate in the Institute’s research program, which is organized into four thematic lines. Their involvement reflects the University’s ongoing commitment to contributing to educational research that enhances human development lab and strengthens opportunities for learners across the region.
