Andrés Barrios, Director of the Human Development Lab and Assistant Professor at the School of Business and Economics at Universidad de los Andes, is currently in Cambridge as part of an academic visit to Harvard University that began in late August. His stay will continue through the end of January 2026, after which he will return to Chile to resume his activities at UANDES.
Barrios’ research focuses on labor and public economics, with a primary emphasis on the economics of education. His work investigates how family environments and social networks shape human capital investment, inequality, and intergenerational mobility. He is also a Research Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance (LSE), CEPR, and IZA.
During his semester at Harvard, Barrios has continued advancing projects related to education, labor markets, and crime. He has also invited colleagues and researchers visiting the area to connect and discuss shared research interests.
