Jorge Rodríguez and Andrés Barrios have been awarded a prestigious Spencer Foundation research grant for their paper “Spillover Effects of Affirmative Action Policies in College”, which examines the broader impacts of affirmative action policies in higher education. The study is co-authored by Carolina Allende and Andrés Barrios.

The research analyzes how affirmative action policies not only affect the students who directly benefit from them, but also generate indirect or “spillover” effects on peers and individuals within their social and academic environments. By focusing on these indirect outcomes, the paper contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of how equity-oriented policies can influence educational trajectories beyond their immediate targets.

The Spencer Foundation is an internationally recognized organization that supports high-quality research aimed at improving education and addressing key challenges related to inequality and access. Receiving a Spencer grant reflects the academic relevance and methodological rigor of the project, as well as its contribution to ongoing debates on the design and evaluation of higher education policies.

This award strengthens the research agenda of the authors and supports further work on the consequences of affirmative action policies, providing evidence that can inform both academic discussions and policy decisions in higher education systems.
