The Millennium Institute Mistrall was officially launched as a new research initiative focused on literacy and funded by the Chilean National Agency for Research and Development (ANID).
The institute brings together an interdisciplinary team of researchers committed to advancing knowledge on reading and writing development and addressing key educational challenges in Chile.
Among the researchers participating in the initiative are Carolina Melo and Pelusa Orellana, both affiliated with the Human Development Lab at Universidad de los Andes. They will contribute to several of the institute’s research lines focused on literacy and educational improvement.
One of the institute’s main research lines will focus on the implementation of a Response to Intervention (RTI) model in Chilean schools. This work will be led by Pelusa Orellana together with Pablo Escobar and Jaime Balladares, with the goal of developing practical tools to support reading and writing instruction across the country.
RTI is an internationally recognized framework designed to identify learning difficulties early and provide targeted support based on students’ needs.
The creation of the Millennium Institute Mistrall marks an important step toward strengthening literacy research in Chile and generating evidence that can inform educational policy, school practices, and interventions aimed at improving reading and writing outcomes.
